It was two days of excitement as divisions battled it out to find a winner to send to Florida. David Hair and Crystal Blakley rallied on the mic building up the excitement as the competitors fought to gain the state title. All three in the Men’s Intermediate division had won 1st place during the season so it was a fight to the end with Nick Ball pulling it out at the close of the day Sunday. The mini’s were in rare form as always.. JD got his bunnyhop (about 8 in one pass), Maddie shaved her legs (she’s 5) and Nathan just kept winning!!!!
The competitors were towed by Mastercraft, Tige and Supra, many thanks to the sponsors who brought their boats Carolina Mastercraft; Gunnell’s Marine; and JCSports!
Thanks so much to ALL the wonderful volunteers that helped make the event a success… A special thanks to Roberta Penland our infamous baker who sent incredible deserts to the event once again!! If you didn’t get to taste her fine cooking you certainly misssed a treat!! And thanks to Neil Richardson for allowing us to enjoy his back yard…

It was a sunny June weekend at Lake Flumi in Spartanburg as slalom skiers enjoyed personal bests and many bumped to higher divisions.
COMPETITION There were even those who skied injured! Gwen and Barney Gunnell’s of Gunnell’s Marine tried to outdo one another not on the water but on land with one crushing toes while the other suffered a badly scraped shin when climbing a one step ladder!! Nevertheless they both left on Sunday with medals. Take a look at the standings for the weekend’s results.
Congratulations to John and Melissa Moorhead proud parents of a six week old baby girl, Libby who made her debut at this weekend’s event.
SPONSORS Thanks to Hans Menzel for allowing us to use his facilities and Lake Flumi. Thanks to Hans and Chad at Carolina Mastercraft for arranging to have use of the Mastercraft that pulled the skiers all weekend. Another thanks to our sponsors: Gunnell’s Marine, JCSports and Discount Inboard.
VOLUNTEERS Thanks again to our wonderful volunteers and tour team without you the event would not be possible!
STOP’S 1 & 2
It was a Rip-Roaring, Fun-Filled, Wakeboard Riding weekend in SC! From early morning beginnings with Faith Hill singing the National Anthem to ending each day with Award Winners smiling…
COMPETITION
After 13 years of putting on INT events you would think you had heard it all but NO, those mini outlaws have stories to tell…. Mr. Mark asked 5 year old JD (Mini Outlaw winner on Saturday) why he chose to pull out on THAT side of the boat and naturally his reply was, “I just liked that side better today and besides that way I get to ride on the platform with you!” And once reaching the dock he turned around and said to Mr. Mark, “Doggone it I forgot my Bunnyhop!!” Smack starts young very, very young!
And then there’s 5 year old Maddie with whom I got to spend some time while she hung out at registration and learned that among her many qualities; poised beauty, dramatic means of conversation, inquisitive nature, and love of the water she can divide and reason!!! Well I just have to ask “WHAT WAS IN THOSE PRENATAL PILLS!!??” Maddie’s brother, the serious 7 year old Nathan third of our 3 mini outlaw riders had all eyes on him Sunday as he took first place…
There were some close calls with the Men’s Intermediate division. Winner Sunday (Nick
Estes) beating Saturday’s winner (Nick Ball) by only 50 points!! And duking it out for
the Mastercraft PWT’s Gold Ticket invitation to Kentucky was Trent Howard winning Saturday and Patrick McMenamin winning Sunday. The high score coming in at 10,250 points for the weekend so the invitation went to Patrick. Congratulations Patrick!
SPONSORS
How about those fantastic boats? Thanks to Barney and Gwen at Gunnell’s Marine for
bringing the Tige; thanks to Jeff Crouch of JC Sports for the Moomba and thanks to Hans
Menzel and Chad Hodge at Carolina Water Sports for the Mastercraft.. Without their support there would be no South Carolina INT events.
VOLUNTEERS
We would like to thank all of our volunteers and tour team members that made Stops 1 and 2 a success. Announcers, Dockstarters, Boat Drivers, Judges, Recorders, those that cleaned boats, gathered trash and all those guys that helped put up and tear down banners. And again thanks to our tour team who just keep showing up: Terry Penland, Morris, Tammy and Hunter Warner. Also a great BIG thanks to Eric Moss for helping out at registration on Saturday.
LAKE OWNER
Another thanks to Devil’s Fork Lake owner, Neil Richardson. Our first event ever was held at his lake 14 years ago in 1997 and we are still enjoying this gorgeous venue today. Although Neil’s interests are varied you will find him among the 100+ acres he has surrounding the lake cultivating daylilies. If you share his love for these incredible flowers go by and see over 1000 varieties and you can even purchase your favorites.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are still looking for volunteers especially announcers and style judges.
What does it take to become an Announcer?
We are looking for mature persons with excitement and energy that has a willingness to
learn the sport and speak positively about the riders and sponsors. If you would like
to volunteer to announce please get in touch with us today!
What does it take to become a wakeboard Style Judge?
We are looking for mature riders willing to ride in the boat throughout several divisions
to help post a score for style; however you cannot judge style in the division you are
riding or for family members.
Style points are fabricated from three different categories:
C A T – Composition, Amplitude, and Technical aspects of the ride.
COMPOSITION reflects the overall ride with the appropriate mix of tricks for the division
allowing for a mix of HS and TS tricks in every category allowed for that division. It looks
at flow, how the tricks were linked together to make them connect smoothly.
AMPLITUDE reflects the ability to go big, overall intensity, level of aggression and
degree of difficulty.
TECHNICAL reflects the overall execution of the tricks with minimal falls and butt checks.
If you are interested please get in touch with us and we will explain in greater detail.
